The Delayed Entry Program Personal Qualification Standards. It is a system that ensures that DEP personnel attain, demonstrate and sustain the basic knowledge and skill levels that are necessary to ensure a smooth transition from civilian life to entry level Navy life a.k.a Recruit Training.
What does the DEP PQS consist of?
The DEP PQS has two phases: the training phase and the sign-off phase. During the training phase, you will be expected to learn fundamental information (the DEP booklet you received in your Navy bag) about the U.S. Navy. During the sign-off phase, you will be required to demonstrate, verbally and/or physically, information learned during that training phase. Attendance to all DEP meetings are important. At the meetings you will learn certain drills and materials that will assist you, while you are in DEP and when you go to Recruit Training.
You should inform your recruiter when you have a thorough understanding of a complete module. Your recruiter will quiz you one-on-one on that particular module. Upon successful verification of your knowledge of the module your recruiter will sign-off the qualifications for that module.
Your completion of the DEP PQS is the first step in your Navy training and your first professional qualification. Good Luck!
